Playa Dominical is one of my favorite travel spots in Costa Rica. [...]]]> Where is your favorite travel spot in Costa Rica? No doubt some will say they don’t have one favorite spot, but several. There are so many places in Costa Rica to enjoy. For one, there are the beaches or playas.

Playa Dominical is one of my favorite travel spots in Costa Rica. It is located south of Quepos and north of Uvita on the west coast.

There are not as many tourists here as some of the other beaches and life seems to proceed at a slower pace. Playa Dominical has a long sandy beach that is great for walking or jogging.

Taking an early morning walk is refreshing before the sun gets too hot. As you walk, you can watch surfers paddling their surf boards out past the breaking waves and the deeply tanned life guards setting up their station. While the resident stray canines cavort on the beach, the shore birds skim along the incoming waves attempting to glean breakfast.

Breathing the fresh air and walking along with the saltwater lapping at your feet feels so invigorating.

Playa Dominical is popular for surfing. Our children enrolled in the Green Iguana Surf Camp and had a wonderful time learning to surf. Dominical has a language school too.

There are several nice places to eat and stay in Dominical (more on that later in another post), but don’t expect the amount of shops and entertainment you can find in the larger towns. That, however, is what sets Dominical apart and is part of its charm.
